SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Some 150 new police recruits from the Ilocos Region, who were hired through the ‘faceless and nameless’ system, took their oath Thursday.
“We believe they are the most qualified among all the applicants. They were chosen based solely on their qualifications,” said Capt. Karol Elizabeth Baloco, Police Regional Office 1 (Ilocos) assistant information officer.
Under the new recruitment scheme of the Philippine National Police, a quick response (QR) code system will be used to conceal the identity of the applicant.
Only the applicant’s qualifications will be evaluated in determining if he or she will be accepted in the police force.
The QR code system will be utilized in the entire police recruitment process, including the body mass index and agility, drug, and neuropsychiatric tests, as well as physical, medical, and dental examinations.
Baloco said the newly-recruited individuals -- 80 males and 70 females -- will undergo swab tests and quarantine before they start their six-month in-house Public Safety Basic Recruitment Course.
“This includes tactical and other activities and other subjects related to police matters like handling guns, among others. It is a crucial time for them as the number may decrease if they quit or they will be dismissed due to violations,” she said.
She added 150 new recruits, however, will already receive their salaries while they are in training.
