DAVAO CITY – A village here identifies vaccinated households by placing sticker tags on their doors.

Barangay Lasang Chair Allan Simo-ag said on Friday the tagging system is not to discriminate against those who have not yet been vaccinated.

Instead, it promotes the vaccination campaign by acknowledging those who have availed of the jab against Covid-19.

“This is not to discriminate. This is to recognize those residents who have themselves inoculated,” he told the Philippine News Agency.

The initiative was one of the results of a meeting with the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team, where they came up with vaccination campaign strategies, like gathering of purok (sub-village) data management on residents who were vaccinated, interview of vaccinees via livestream on their official Facebook page, and the tagging system.

“If the household is composed of 10 members of the family, we will put stickers based on the numbers of those who were already vaccinated. It will also help us in case a certain household will be positive for Covid-19. By then, we can identify who were already vaccinated,” Simo-ag said.

He said 539 residents are already inoculated.

“If their neighbor saw the stickers, it would somehow encourage them to also get vaccinated. Some of the residents who were not listed as vaccinated voluntarily come to the barangay hall to present their vaccination cards and would ask for their houses to be tagged,” he added.

Earlier, Davao Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said village officials have the option to strategize any measure helpful in their vaccination campaign, one of which is the tagging system.

"If they will adopt it, that would be good. But it was already recommended to them to help strengthen their information drive," she said.

She said tagging is considered a "best practice" and which could be adopted by all 182 villages in the city. (PNA)
