LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has warned Pangasinenses against engaging in social gatherings and dining out amid the threat of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) variant.

PHO chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman said although Pangasinan has not yet recorded any case of the Delta Covid-19 variant, the public should remain vigilant to prevent acquiring the highly contagious virus when dining out, attending celebrations, and karaoke sessions with people who might be carrier of the virus.

“Let us be careful with activities where we are obliged to remove our masks like dining in restaurants and attending gatherings,” she said during the question hour of the Provincial Board (Sangguniang Panlalawigan) on Monday.

De Guzman said even those vaccinated individuals could still get infected which is why strict compliance and adherence to the health and safety protocols is needed.

She thus advised everyone to get vaccinated to acquire “another layer of defense” against the severe and critical effects of the virus.

She reminded the public to habitually adhere to the protocols such as wearing of face mask, face shield, and observing physical distancing.

Meanwhile, out of the over 1.9 million eligible population for vaccination in the province, 17 percent have already been inoculated.

As of August 1, Pangasinan recorded 702 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
