MANILA – A total of 255 UV Express units will be going back to the streets after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) opened five new routes in Metro Manila.

In accordance with LTFRB Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2021-049 released on Wednesday, the new UV Express routes include G. Tuazon – Ayala route in Sampaloc (N08), BF Parañaque Village in Las Piñas – Ayala Center (N25), Pasig City – EDSA Central (N64), SM Mega Mall – Quiapo / SM Megamall – Quiapo via Ortigas (N69), Sucat – Lawton / Sucat – Park N Ride (N52), and SSS Village – Cubao [Farmer’s Plaza/MRT] (N72).

“Maaaring bumiyahe ang mga roadworthy public utility vehicles (PUV) na may valid at existing Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) o Application for Extension of Validity, at kinakailangang nakarehistro sa Personal Passenger Insurance Policy ang bawat unit sa mga rutang nakapaloob sa MC (Roadworthy PUVs will be allowed to operate if they have valid and existing CPC or application for extension of validity and if all units in the MC are registered with a personal passenger insurance policy),” the LTFRB said in a Facebook post.

Instead of a special permit, the LTFRB said the operators of the concerned UV Express Units will need to secure a QR code from its website and have it printed in a short bond paper and posted on their PUVs.

To help avoid Covid-19 infections in public transportation, it reminded UV Express drivers, operators, and passengers alike to always follow the “7 Commandments” such as the mandatory wearing of face masks and shields, no talking, no eating, ensuring adequate ventilation in PUVs, regular disinfection, barring symptomatic passengers, and observing the “one-seat-apart” physical distancing.

“Pinapaalala rin ng LTFRB sa mga operator at driver ng UV Express na sundin ang mga patakaran ng ahensya. (The LTFRB reminds UV Express drivers and operators to always follow the rules of the agency),” the LTFRB said.

It noted that those found to violate the MC provisions will be penalized accordingly, including fines or possible revocation of their CPC or provisional authority. (PNA)
