MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan – The provincial government will not implement a hard lockdown amid the discovery of seven Delta variant cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Bulacan, Governor Daniel R. Fernando said on Tuesday.

The province remains under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions until Aug. 15, as announced by the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Fernando said following consultations with the mayors, it was decided that there would be no hard lockdown in the province so as not to sacrifice the businesses and work of Bulakenyos.

Although we want to be strict for safety, most of us believe we can no longer afford to go back to the most restricted quarantine. We will try to lower the number of cases through our earlier directives),” he said in an interview during the distribution of Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) held at KB Gym here.

The governor called on Bulakenyos to practice more discipline and individual responsibility which are the keys in beating the virus.

Paiigtingin natin ang ating pagbabantay sa ating borders, pagpapatupad ng minimum health standards (Although we remain under GCQ with heightened restrictions, there are different restrictions that we will implement, We will intensify the monitoring in our borders and the implementation of minimum health standards),” Fernando said.

He likewise warned those who are spreading misinformation about an alleged lockdown whose only aim is to confuse people through distortion of truth.

Huwag na nating dagdagan pa (Those kind of people are worse than criminals. Those people do not mind that what they are doing might bring danger instead of safety to the public. The only victims of such acts are our provincemates. Their hardships are enough and let us not add more),” he added. (PNA)
