Chery Tiggo forces rubber match vs. Creamline in PVL Finals

MANILA – Chery Tiggo lived to fight for another day in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference Finals after drubbing defending champion Creamline in four sets, 25-18, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21, on Thursday night at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

The Santiago sisters led the way for the Crossover as they forced one last showdown with the Cool Smashers on Friday to decide who will win the championship in the season-opening event.

Jaja Santiago led the way for Chery Tiggo with 25 points on 20 attacks, three blocks, and two aces, while older sister Dindin Santiago-Manabat added 18 points on 15 kills, two blocks, and one ace.

Alyssa Valdez put up 18 points on 16 attacks, one block, and the only ace of the night for Creamline.

Meanwhile, Petro Gazz secured the third-place finish after beating Choco Mucho in straight sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, in Game 2 of their repechage series in the first game

In the process, the Angels completed a 2-0 sweep of their best-of-three series against the Flying Titans.

Petro Gazz made quick work of a Choco Mucho squad that played sans Maddie Madayag, which went down to a knee injury in Game 1, Bea De Leon, Kat Tolentino, and Denden Revilla.

Myla Pablo led the Angels with 16 points on 14 attacks, while Gretchel Soltones added seven points with 12 excellent receptions.

Caitlyn Viray top-scored for the Flying Titans with nine markers. (PNA)
