BUTUAN CITY – Travelers from areas with confirmed cases of the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) are required to present a negative result of a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test when entering Bislig City in Surigao del Sur.

Mayor Florencio Garay issued on Friday Executive Order (EO) 33-A, which sets new travel guidelines upon entry to the city.

“The EO is in line with the order of the Department of (the) Interior and Local Government in Caraga last July 23, 2021, that encouraged all local government units (LGUs) in the region to set up border entry protocols for the prompt screening and monitoring of possible Delta variant carriers,” Garay said.

The order takes effect on August 16 and will remain in full force unless revoked sooner or amended.

Under the new EO, the Incident Management Team of Bislig City has been tasked to reestablish border checkpoints and ensure the conduct of thorough risk assessment and profiling upon the entry of all travelers to the city.

The negative RT-PCR required from travelers from areas with the Delta variant must be valid for seven days, the EO said.

These travelers include those with medical concerns, locally-stranded individuals (LSIs), and returning overseas Filipino workers (ROFs).

The LSIs from Delta-affected areas must also present a letter of acceptance from Bislig’s city government while ROFs must show a certification from the Bureau of Quarantine and must undergo 14-day isolation at the Bislig City Quarantine Facility.

The LSIs from places not affected by the Delta variant must only present valid IDs and an acceptance letter, the EO stated.

Authorized persons outside residence (APORs) are required to present valid IDs and travel orders upon entry to Bislig City, the order said.

No restrictions shall be imposed upon travelers from the province of Surigao del Sur as they will only be required to present valid IDs upon entry to the city.

As of Friday, a total of 1,318 Covid-19 infections have been recorded in Bislig City since the pandemic started, with 1,209 recoveries, 31 active cases, and 78 deaths. (PNA)
