ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Wednesday night the Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9).
Allan Rommel Labayog, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) regional field officer, said Thursday the epicenter of the earthquake was in Mabuhay, an island town in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
Labayog said the earthquake happened around 8:03 p.m. Wednesday and the origin of which was tectonic with a depth of 24 kilometers.
He said there were no reported casualties nor properties destroyed during the earthquake.
Labayog said Wednesday night’s earthquake was the third this week. The first was at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday with a magnitude of 2.8 and a depth of 30 kilometers southwest of Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte.
He said another tremor with a magnitude of 3.3 and depth of 38 kilometers southwest of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte happened around 8:55 p.m. Tuesday.
He said there were no reported casualties on both earthquakes the origin of which was tectonic.
The tectonic earthquake is a result of a very large stone that breaks in two causing the tremor, Labayog said. (PNA)
