MANILA – Several low-lying areas in Metro Manila are inundated in floodwaters due to non-stop rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Jolina (international name Conson) Wednesday.
In its 12 noon alert, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported four inches of floodwaters along Roxas Boulevard – Quirino Service Road—with no other major roads experiencing flooding.
There are at least three cities within the National Capital Region currently experiencing floods.
In the City of Manila, gutter-deep floodwaters have been reported along P. Burgos corner Finance Road and España Boulevard.
In Navotas, non-stop rains also resulted in gutter-deep flooding along Daang Hari corner M. Naval, Daang Hari corner Gov. Pascual, Tangos North INC, and E. Rodriguez corner Masipag.
In Malabon, 6 inches of floodwaters inundated San Vicente Maysilo; 3 inches in Don Basilio Pulong Duhat; 5 inches in M.H. Del Pilar Tatawid; 5 inches in M. Sioson Dampalit; 6 inches in Barangay Tenejeros in front of barangay hall; 4 inches in Maria Clara Barangay Acasia; and 3 inches in Sitio Sais Catmon.
Meantime, in Marikina City, the Marikina Public Information Office reported that the Marikina River is still at a normal level at 14.6 meters as of 1 p.m. The first alarm for the Marikina River is at 15 meters which means residents in low-lying areas must prepare to evacuate.
In its 2 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the center of “Jolina” was last estimated in the vicinity of San Nicolas, Batangas.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness of up to 160 kph, and is moving northwestward at 15 kph. (PNA)
