BUTUAN CITY – As cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) continue to increase, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 13 (Caraga) has ordered the temporary suspension of enrollment and classes of theoretical driving courses in driving schools here.

LTO-13 Director Nordy Plaza told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday that the temporary suspension was also ordered as 76 barangays here were placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 22.

“Under the MECQ guidelines, gatherings and other face-to-face activities are strictly prohibited,” Plaza said.

Butuan City has three driving schools.

The temporary suspension, he said, was also based on Memorandum Circular 2021-2266 that was issued by LTO chief Edgar Galvante on May 19, 2021.

“The safety of our clients is our top priority. We will soon announce the resumption of the classes of driving schools,” Plaza said.

As of Thursday, Butuan City has recorded 8,749 Covid-19 infections with 7,477 recoveries, 1,032 remaining active cases, and 240 deaths. (PNA)
