'Kiko' makes landfall in Batanes

MANILA – Typhoon Kiko has made landfall in Batanes on Saturday morning.

In an interview with DZBB, Raymond Ordinario, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon has made landfall in the town of Ivana at about 8:30 a.m.

“Kiko” has maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 265 kph, and a central pressure of 920 hectopascals (hPa), moving north-northwestward at 15 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 has been raised over Batanes and the northeastern portion of the Babuyan Islands; TCWS No. 3 over the northwestern portion of the Babuyan Islands; TCWS No. 2 over the rest of the Babuyan Islands; and TCWS No. 1 over mainland Cagayan, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Vintar, Carasi, Nueva Era, Piddig, Solsona, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City, San Nicolas, Sarrat, Dingras, and Pagudpud).

“Kiko” will bring rains with gusty winds over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, the rest of Cagayan, Abra, Kalinga, and the northern portion of Isabela.

Metro Manila, the rest of the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, as well as Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, and the Mindoro provinces will experience rains brought by “Kiko” and the southwest monsoon.

The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought by the typhoon and the southwest monsoon.

The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, meanwhile, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 25°C to 30°C; Baguio City, 16°C to 22°C; Puerto Princesa City, 24°C to 30°C; Metro Cebu, 25°C to 32°C; Metro Davao, 26°C to 33°C; and Zamboanga City, 25°C to 33°C. (PNA)
