MANILA – Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to boost its support for the National Covid-19 Vaccination Program.

Today, PRC volunteers and staff boarded boats to Talim Island to vaccinate Covid-19 priority groups; A2 or senior citizens and A3 or persons with comorbidities.

"Anuman ang mga hamon na kinakaharap natin, ang Red Cross ay laging handa para tumulong. Andito kami upang magbigay ng pag-asa lalo na sa mga nangangailangan na pinaglilingkuran namin nang walang diskriminasyon (Whatever challenge we are facing, Red Cross is always ready to help. We are here to give hope especially to those who are in need without discrimination)," PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard Gordon said in a media release on Tuesday.

Red Cross volunteers and staff from the Rizal Chapter and the municipality of Cardona, Rizal arrived at the island in two boats aiming to vaccinate 420 individuals; 120 with J&J and 300 with Sinovac.

"Talim Island is only accessible by boat, so we need to pay PHP100 for a two-way trip to the island. Plus, the boats sailing from and to the island can only do so from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. That is why I am very grateful for the Red Cross volunteers and staff for providing vaccines to our community,” a resident said.

As of September 13, 2021, the PRC has vaccinated 208,795 individuals in their 16 Bakuna Buses and 20 PRC Bakuna Centers nationwide.

Minus the vaccines, PRC shoulders all other costs under the COVID-19 Vaccination Program of the government. This includes syringes, mobilization, and vaccinator allowances.
