BAUANG, La Union – The municipality here has confirmed the presence of African swine fever (ASF) in the villages of Bawanta, Palintucang, Pottot and Cabisilan.
In an advisory issued on Friday, the town said the mandatory culling and depopulation of hogs within the 500-meter radius from the index case have started.
“Movement of pigs is suspended for two weeks (14 days) on the areas outside the 500-meter radius but within the one-kilometer radius from the index case,” it said.
The entry of pigs and pork products from outside the town is still prohibited, the advisory added.
“Barangay captains shall strictly monitor any inter-barangay hog movement, illegal slaughter activities, and selling of pork meat outside the municipal market and registered talipapas (stalls),” it added.
Residents are also urged to cooperate with authorities such as the Municipal Agriculture Office, local police, and barangay officials to stop the spread of ASF and protect the local swine industry. (PNA)
