MANILA – Customers of broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. (Converge) in North Luzon will enjoy a more “available” and “stable” network after the company completed its fiber-optic loop, making its network “completely redundant.”

In a statement on Wednesday, Converge CEO Dennis Uy said the upgrade was completed amidst the Covid-19 pandemic as consumers use more bandwidth at home for work, school and entertainment.

“We are happy to announce that our fiber network in the region is now completely redundant. This means if there should be a fiber break in the area, services will continue,” Uy said.

In case of interruption, a “redundant” network ensures the availability and stability of the service through alternate links or network backup.

He said the company will also soon finish the “total fiberization” of Pangasinan and La Union “this month” as it reaches major cities and municipalities in the provinces.

Converge is also mounting a “deepening” of its network in North Luzon by providing its service in 14 new cities and municipalities across Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Quirino.

“We’re making good on our promise to connect the unserved and underserved areas in the Philippines. With this development, coupled with our ‘Go National’ strategy in reaching Visayas and Mindanao, Converge is truly fiber-powering the country,” Uy said.

In the second quarter of 2021, Converge has extended its coverage to 53 additional cities and municipalities from the previous quarter and provides services to 8.1 million households as of the end of June.

The company eyes covering 55 percent of the country’s households with its fiber-optic network by 2025. (PNA)
