ISTANBUL – Luis Scola has decided to retire from basketball, the Argentine Basketball Confederation announced on Tuesday.

"Farewell to a legend was confirmed. A 22-year career in the National Team, with 22 tournaments, 173 games and 2857 points. An immense career that made us better and filled us with joy. Good luck on your new path, Luis Scola," it said in a statement.

The 41-year-old has been named the chief executive of Lega Basket Serie A's Pallacanestro Varese, where he played the last season, the Italian club said.

The power forward has made appearances for several NBA clubs such as Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets.

Playing for the Argentine team since 1999, Scola helped his nation win an Olympic gold at 2004 Athens, and bronze at the 2008 Beijing. (Anadolu)
