Soccsksargen Covid-19 recoveries top 40K

COTABATO CITY – A total of 40,386 patients have so far recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Region 12 (Soccsksargen), the Department of Health -12 here said in an update.

Of the cumulative total number of recoveries, South Cotabato topped the list with 12,645; General Santos City, 10,895; North Cotabato, 7,236; Sultan Kudarat, 5,493; and Sarangani, 4,117.

“The region’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 84 percent with a cumulative tally of 40,386 recoveries from 48,333 confirmed cases since March last year,” Arjohn Gangoso, speaking for DOH-12, said Friday.

He added that the region’s current Covid-19 recovery figure was bolstered by the reported 336 new recoveries on Thursday night.

Of the new recoveries, Gangoso said South Cotabato topped the list with 124; North Cotabato, 107; Sultan Kudarat, 65; General Santos City, 40; and Sarangani, zero.

Also on Thursday, however, the region had recorded 232 new cases. Of the new case, South Cotabato had 70; General Santos City, 68; North Cotabato, 61; Sultan Kudarat, 33; and Sarangani, zero.

“As health front-liners, we are continuously trying our best to contain the spread of the virus in the region,” he said as he urged the public to maintain the practice of standard health protocols.

Active cases are at 6,392, Gangoso said, with South Cotabato logging the highest number with 2,505; North Cotabato, 1,412; General Santos City, 1,074; Sarangani, 954; and Sultan Kudarat, 447.

Meanwhile, four new deaths were reported in General Santos City, bringing the cumulative total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the region to 6,392 since the pandemic was declared last year.

Gangoso said most of the hospitals in the region are currently operating at full capacity due to the recent surge of Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
