LAOAG CITY – Hundreds of flaglets are planted at the Ilocos Norte Capitol grounds on Monday to honor the nearly 400 lives lost to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the province.

Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc said this is also a reminder to “strengthen our resolve” to prevent such deaths in the future.

"This is our tribute to the frontline heroes and our kakailian who have fallen after battling Covid-19, as well as a reminder to strengthen our resolve to prevent such deaths in the future," he said.

Ilocos Norte is currently under general community quarantine to allow most businesses to go back to normal. To give justice to the victims of the virus and the frontline heroes who are sacrificing in this period of uncertainties, the public is strongly encouraged to always keep their guards up, and avoid mass gatherings and closed spaces as much as possible.

Government workers were also sent home early on Monday to allow them to spend time with their families and celebrate “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day”.

This is based on the Sept. 21 Palace memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea which enforced the early work suspension from 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, which is 90 minutes earlier compared to a normal workday. (PNA)
