PNP logs 1,786 Covid-19 reinfection cases

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has so far recorded 1,786 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) reinfections.

During a media interview Wednesday, PNP deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Joselito Vera Cruz said of this number, three suffered severe Covid-19 symptoms and one of them has already died.

"Total reinfections namin is 1,786 since the start of the pandemic. Konti lang ang reinfections sa reported daily cases namin at majority dito ay new cases (Our total number of reinfections is 1,786 since the start of the pandemic. Reinfections constitute only a small case of our daily reported cases)," said Vera Cruz, who is also chief of the PNP Administrative Support for Covid-19 Task Force (ASCOTF).

He added that the fatality is unvaccinated while the other two have received their first dose.

Vera Cruz said 1,561 of those who were reinfected with Covid-19 are asymptomatic and 222 have mild symptoms.

As of Wednesday, the PNP has logged a total of 40,463 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 38,561 recoveries, 1,783 active cases, and 119 deaths. (PNA)
