Romualdez seeks another term in Congress

TACLOBAN CITY - House Majority Floor Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Thursday, vying for reelection as Leyte's first district representative.

Romualdez was accompanied by his wife, Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Romualdez; Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez and his wife, Cristina, and supporters when he formalized his reelection bid at the Leyte provincial election office.

"We want to make sure that everybody is safe, everybody is healthy, and that we now restore our economy, open it back, revitalize and reinvigorate it," Romualdez told reporters.

Earlier, he was considered as a vice-presidential bet by the administration.

As of Thursday, Romualdez is the only candidate for representative in Leyte's first district. He is running under Lakas- Christian Muslim Democrat (CMD) party.

Ferdinand Martin is the son of the late Benjamin Romualdez, a former Leyte governor and ambassador. Benjamin is the younger brother of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos.

He first held the congressional post from 2007 to 2016. His wife replaced him from 2016 to 2019 until she ran and won as the first nominee of Tingog Party-list. (PNA)
