MANILA – The private sector is waiting for the outcome of pilot vaccination of minors as well as the go signal from the government for businesses to conduct their own inoculation program for the young population.

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion said Tuesday the private sector has a supply of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine brands that are allowed to be given to individuals from 12 to 17 years old.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been approved for minors.

“We have Moderna. We already purchased (the vaccines) and they are in storage. At least we can use that already to vaccinate the children of our employees. So, that is the second part that the private sector is going to do. Most of our employees and their families are already vaccinated, so next is the children,” he said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

The private sector purchased a total of 24 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine through a tripartite agreement with the government and vaccine manufacturers.

Of these, 17 million doses are AstraZeneca and 7 million doses are Moderna which can be vaccinated to populations aged 12 to 17 years.

Concepcion underscored the importance of vaccinating minors so that face-to-face classes would be allowed in the country.

Fully vaccinated minors should also be allowed to enter business establishments like malls and restaurants, he added. (PNA)
