LAOAG CITY – Search and rescue teams have been searching for a woman who went missing after she was swept away by a strong river current in Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

Marcel Tabije, head of the Provincial Resiliency Office, said in an interview Tuesday that the 30-year-old woman and her three companions were crossing the Lasien River in Barangay Nagrebcan when the carabao-drawn carriage they were riding on broke down.

“Her three companions managed to swim to the riverbank but the woman was swept away by the strong current of the river,” Tabije said.

Members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Badoc, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard have joined forces to locate the victim.

Ilocos Norte was down to Signal No. 1 as of the 5 p.m. weather bulletin on Tropical Storm Maring, which was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. (PNA)
