More nat'l roads closed due to 'Maring'

MANILA – The number of national road sections closed to traffic due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Maring has reached 24, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Tuesday.

In an advisory, the agency's Bureau of Maintenance (BOM) said as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, the number of affected roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has climbed to 17, three each in Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley, and one in Central Visayas.

The roads are impassable due to fallen trees, landslides, floods, continuous mudslides, and damage to bridges.

In CAR, the 17 closed roads are: Kennon Road, Camp 1, Tuba, Benguet; sections of Baguio- Bontoc Road in Caliking, Half Tunnel Paoay, and Cattubo, Atok, Benguet; Asin- Nangalisan - San Pascual - La Union Boundary Road in Lasong, Tadiangan, and First Tunnel, Sipitan, Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet; Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road Benguet; Abra - Kalinga Road, Cawayan, Baay-Licuan, Abra; Abra - Kalinga Road, Cawayan, Baay-Licuan, Abra Madduang, Kabugao, and Madduang, Kabugao, Apayao; Kabugao - Pudtol - Luna - Cagayan - Boundary Road, Bulu, Kabugao, Apayao; Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road, Gattaban Section, Naguillian, Calanasan, Apayao; and Apayao-Ilocos Norte Rd, Butao, Calanasan, Apayao.

Also closed in CAR mostly due to landslide and soil collapse are: Pico - Lamtang Road, Lamtang in La Trinidad, Benguet; Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road, Sitio Gueng, Daclan, Bokod, Benguet; Baguio - Bua - Itogon Road, Sitio First Gate, Ucab and at Sitio Goldfield, Poblacion, both in Itogon, Benguet; City Limit - Sto. Tomas Road, (Various Sections), Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet; Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road, Poblacion and Palina both in Kibungan, Benguet; Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road Amlimay Buguias and Abatan, Buguias, Benguet; Abatan-Mankayan-Cervates Road, Guinaoang, Mankayan, Benguet; and Banaue - Mayoyao - Alfonso Lista - Isabela Boundary Road, in Chuyung, Mayoyao, Ifugao.

The affected roads in Ilocos Region include Manila North Road, Bayugao Bridge, Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur; San Juan - San Gabriel Road, and Luna- Bangar Road, in La Union.

In Cagayan Valley, impassable roads are the following: Baybayog-Baggao-Dalun-Sta. Margarita Road, Abusag Overflow Bridge, Namayacan Bridge approach "B".K 585 +122 along Dugo San Vicente; and Cagayan Apayao Road, Itawes Bridge, Tuao, Cagayan; while the Cebu-Toledo Wharf Road in Barangay Manipis, Talisay City, Cebu in Region 7 also remains closed to all types of vehicles.

The DPWH added that the roads that are only accessible to heavy vehicles include: Manila North Road, Sta. Cruz-Sta. Lucia Bdry, Candon, and Brgy. Baliw Daya, Sta Maria in Ilocos Sur; and Manila North Road, in La Union due to flooding. (PNA)
