COTABATO CITY – The municipal hall of Mamasapano in Maguindanao has been shut down after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Akmad Ampatuan Jr. said Wednesday the local inter-agency task force on Covid-19 has started the disinfection and decontamination process to ensure that the facility where more than 100 municipal workers hold office is virus-free.

The result of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction of the infected employee was released Tuesday.

“Basic services to our clients will continue with our personnel working from home while on a seven-day isolation,” Ampatuan said.

He informed his constituents that all barangay governments are functioning in Mamasapano and matters that can be addressed at the barangay level are best referred to village officials.

Mamasapano has 15 villages with some 26,000 inhabitants based on the 2020 population census.

“The closure of the town hall is temporary, business transactions may be done online or clients can wait until Tuesday, Oct. 19,” the mayor said.

Ampatuan noted that Monday, October 18, is a Muslim holiday in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as the Muslims commemorate “Maulidin Nabi” or the birth of Prophet Mohammad.

The mayor advised his constituents to get updates from their village officials or visit the Facebook page of the local government unit. (PNA)
