TACLOBAN CITY – Several areas in Leyte and Biliran provinces will experience day-long power interruptions over the weekend as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will conduct system improvement works.
Brownouts will hit Tacloban City and nearby towns of Palo and Babatngon on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., affecting thousands of power consumers, including major businesses in the regional capital under the franchise area of Leyte II Electric Cooperative.
“There will be a replacement of old wood poles with steel poles, replacement of connectors, clams, and correction of cross-arms,” the NGCP said in its advisory on Friday.
On Sunday, a 12-hour power outage will hit the central part of Leyte under the coverage area of Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. power failure will be experienced by power consumers in the towns of Burauen, Dagami, Lapaz, Abuyog, Javier, Mahaplag, and Tanauan.
Also on Sunday, the entire Biliran province will suffer a day-long power shutdown under the service area of Biliran Electric Cooperative.
Power outages will also hit the towns of Calubian and Leyte towns on the same day. The two towns are within the franchise area of Leyte V Electric Cooperative.
The NGCP asked electric cooperatives to closely monitor their activities to avoid delays during power restoration to their end.
The replacement of old wood poles with steel poles is part of the NGCP’s upgrading activities in anticipation of future load growth.
