CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office in Central Luzon (PRO-3) is beefing up the capabilities of its forces in responding to disasters and calamities.

At least 36 personnel from different provincial and city mobile force companies as well as Regional Mobile Battalion on Monday started to undergo a five-day training designed to prepare them for possible disaster response and deployment in search and rescue operations.

On Tuesday, Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon, regional director of PRO-3, said in a social media post that the move is in support of the national government’s campaign to address disasters and calamities.

“Search and rescue are often physically demanding. Through the simulation exercises and drills during the course of this training, your skills in search and rescue techniques will be honed; thus, PRO-3 will be able to build a network of search and rescue professionals that we could rely on especially during the onslaught of typhoons and disasters. We always have to do preparations and ongoing trainings. It is not a matter of lacking, it is keeping in tune, keeping abreast,” de Leon said.

The training is being facilitated by the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division headed by Col. Romell Velasco.

Part of the training are drills simulating emergency scenarios that require practical application of rescue skills in first aid, basic life support, knot-tying, deployment of life-saving buoys and devices, high-angle rescue, and removal of debris and breeching in collapsed structures. (PNA)
