MANILA – The ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi is urging President Rodrigo Duterte to run for Senate in next year’s election.

Cusi said in an interview with Daily Tribune’s online program Wednesday that putting Duterte in the Senate after his term as Chief Executive will help in pushing for legislative reforms.

“If the President will not really run as vice president because he is already decided that he does not want to run and he doesn’t want to break his own words, I said ‘Okay, then just run as senator’ so that you can bring change in the Senate,” Cusi said.

Earlier, Duterte said he will no longer run for vice president and gave way to Senator Christopher Lawrence Go.

The Chief Executive said he will also retire from politics when he finishes his term next year.

He added that it is important for the party to offer candidates for the top two positions, who are Senator Ronald dela Rosa and Go, who believe and will continue the programs of the administration particularly the Build, Build, Build program.

Cusi said the PDP-Laban is also banking on the popularity of Duterte that he could be the campaign manager for the party’s candidates for the 2022 elections.

“He is our best campaign manager, campaign endorser,” he said. (PNA)
