BUTUAN CITY – The vaccination of minors aged 12 to 17 years old and without comorbidities will start here on Wednesday.

Michiko De Jesus, city information officer, told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that the move is part of the continuing efforts of the city government to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“The vaccination of minors without comorbidities will be open to all. They can come to the designated vaccination sites and have their children vaccinated. As of now, we have no target number for minors, but we are calling on our parents to have their children vaccinated to protect them from the virus,” De Jesus said.

She added that the two designated vaccination sites for minors here are at SM City and Robinsons Place.

“The mobile vaccination team of the city government will also proceed to different barangays for the vaccination of minors,” De Jesus said.

The minors must be accompanied by parents or guardians and must present their birth certificates for proof of their age.

“The vaccination of those with comorbidities already commenced last October 29 with 35 minors receiving their first shots of Covid-19 vaccines,” De Jesus said.

She pointed out that the vaccination of minors with comorbidities is conducted at the MJ Santos Hospital here.

An endorsement from a pediatrician is required before a minor with comorbidity is given a dose of the vaccine, De Jesus said.

As of November 1, Butuan City has 119 remaining active Covid-19 cases and 11,564 recoveries.

Since the pandemic hit last year, a total of 12,143 infections have been registered in the city with 460 deaths. (PNA)
