BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga (Region 13) has reported a steady decline in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) active cases in the region.

The agency, in a report on Friday, said active Covid-19 cases are down to 711, or 1.47 percent out of the total infections recorded in the region.

A total of 33 new infections were recorded in Caraga as of Thursday, lower than the 83 new recoveries logged on the same day.

The remaining 711 active cases are lower compared to the 939 recorded at the beginning of this month, 922 on November 2, and 775 on November 3.

“Since the pandemic hit the region last year, a total of 48,199 cumulative number of cases have already been recorded in the region with 45,763 recoveries and 1,741 deaths,” the DOH-13 said.

The number of recoveries in the region represents 94.9 percent of the total cases, while the number of deaths represents 3.6 percent of the total cases.

This city recorded five new cases on Thursday, four in Surigao City, and one each in the cities of Bislig in Surigao del Sur, and Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte.

In the provinces, 12 new cases were reported in Agusan del Sur on the same day, three each in the provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, and two each in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur.

Despite the decrease in the number of infections, the DOH-13 continued to remind the public to follow all the health protocols and quarantine measures.

The agency also urged the unvaccinated residents, including minors aged 12 to 17, to avail of the free vaccination program of the government. (PNA)
