BAGUIO CITY – The municipality of Kiangan in Ifugao has already vaccinated more than half of its target population as of October 27, attributing the accomplishment to the conduct of home vaccination.
Kiangan Mayor Raldis Andrei Bulayungan, during the Network Briefing of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Monday said they did home vaccination when visits have been allowed.
"We brought the vaccination to the grassroots which is a program to bring government programs closer to the people," Bulayungan said in an interview on Monday, a copy of the link shared on Tuesday.
He said talking and explaining to the residents the benefits of vaccination also contributed in the town's vaccination accomplishment.
"Nakakatulong din ang personal visits sa barangays explaining to them the benefits of vaccination," the mayor said.
As of November 6, the town has also given the first dose of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine to 460 pediatric clients.
He said they have targeted at least 1,957 of the adolescent population.
He said they are glad that they are nearing the target herd immunity but they still need to double the effort. "Kiangan is among the top 3 municipalities in Ifugao with a good turnout of vaccination," Bulayungan said.
Apart from home visits for vaccination, the local health office is also maximizing the use of social media in disseminating the appropriate information about the benefits of having vaccinated and the jab schedule.
"We should start among us so that we can convince our families, employees and they, in turn, will be able to convince their relatives, our relatives, and friends," the mayor said. (PNA)
