LEGAZPI CITY – Thousands of residents in this city are now benefiting from the abundant supply of potable water from the solar-powered facilities now operating in the remote village of Banquerohan.

At least eight more water system facilities have already started construction works following their groundbreaking activities that started in August until Wednesday.

Mayor Noel E. Rosal, in an interview on Wednesday during the groundbreaking of the water system facility in Kilometro-16, Barangay Banquerohan, said that around 7,172 more residents in the southern part of Legazpi will benefit from the water system facility.

He noted that this project is part of the social services of the city government aimed at giving the residents a sufficient supply of potable water.

Rosal said most of the new water system facilities are expected to be operationalized before the yearend.

“Most of these villages to be constructed with water system facilities are not included in the services of the Legazpi City Water District (LCWD),” he said.

Rosal commended the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) for allocating PHP20 million for the water system projects and another PHP15 million for basic services including water, repair of roads, and other development projects.

Last August 19, one among the other water system facility projects in the city was broken ground for in Barangay Imalnod, along with a four-lane concrete road that is linked to the Bicol International Airport.

Rosal said the project includes the construction of a cistern that would serve as a water tank to be collected from three springs that would be connected to the elevated tank for the distribution of potable water to recipient households.

“We will also put up powerhouse as well as three horsepower pumps and twelve 400-watt solar panels that would generate electricity enough to run the water production and distribution systems,” he said. (PNA)
