MANILA – The Department of Education has identified 20 private schools that will join the pilot limited face-to-face classes.

In a virtual press briefing, DepEd Director Jocelyn Andaya said the participating private schools would begin classes on November 22.

Andaya noted that a total of 79 private schools nationwide have submitted their intent to participate in the pilot run.

“Each region was requested to nominate a maximum of three private schools and 33 private schools were nominated by 12 ROs (regional offices) to the DepEd Central Office,” she said.

Since only 20 can hold in-person classes, the remaining 13 schools which cannot participate in the pilot run would be considered in the expansion phase.

The 20 private schools include:

Region 1

100 Islands Cowboy Christian Learning Center
Our Saviour’s Foundation

Region 3

Mother of Good Counsel Seminary
Academica de Meridien
Singapore School Clark

Region 4

Citing the alert level classification requirement, Andaya said there were no private schools nominated in Region 2, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Region 4-B.

“There were also no private schools recommended by Region IV-A based on their assessment of applications,” she said.

On November 15, some 100 public schools nationwide reopened to learners for limited in-person classes, 20 months since they were shuttered last year due to the pandemic.

About 5,245 learners from Kinder up to Grade 3 went back to school, the DepEd said. (PNA)
