DUMAGUETE CITY – A key health official in Negros Oriental has reassured there are no expired coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines in the province amid a massive inoculation drive.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion on Friday told the Philippine News Agency the vaccines currently in stock at the cold storage facility of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) are still good with the earliest expiry date in January 2022.
Likewise, the vaccines set to expire this November were distributed to the local government units (LGUs) last month and were already administered to qualified constituents, she said.
Estacion issued her statement following reports that some of the Covid-19 vaccines allocated to some hospitals are expiring this November.
Negros Oriental is doubling its efforts to vaccinate as many people as possible for having the lowest rate among the four Central Visayas provinces.
The DOH-7 has given Negros Oriental a daily target of 25,000 vaccinated people after it was reported the province was only vaccinating 3,000 to 5,000 individuals per day.
As of Nov. 17, records at the PHO showed that 277,827 individuals received their first dose while 205,229 persons were fully vaccinated (including those who got the single-shot Janssen vaccine).
Estacion said they are eyeing to achieve a 50 percent accomplishment of the province’s target population for vaccination of 908,939 by December this year. (PNA)
