Over 900K new voters are 18 years old: Comelec exec

MANILA – Over 900,000 new voters who registered for next year's elections are 18 years old, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said there are 958,730 voters who just reached the legal age signed up to become voters during the registration period to be able to participate in next year’s polls.

Of the figure, she said there are more females who registered as compared to male registrants.

“18 years old registered voters: 958,730 Male: 449,019, Female: 509,711,” she said in her Twitter account, @rowena_guanzon.

Earlier, the poll body official said that as of the Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing last Oct. 18, the country has a total of 5,017,267 new voters.

The data also revealed that the country has 61,999,327 registered voters.

The nationwide voter registration ended on October 30. (PNA)
