MANILA – The number of daily new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases once again dipped to below 1,000, with only 890 new infections reported on Wednesday.
In its latest bulletin, the Department of Health said this is slightly higher than the lowest single-day new case tally of 849 recorded on November 16.
This brought the active case tally to 17,864 -- lower than Tuesday's 18,721.
Another 1,710 new recoveries, meanwhile, pushed its total tally to 2,763,114.
Recoveries account for 97.7 percent of the total case count which has reached 2,828,660 since the start of the pandemic last year.
About 53.4 percent of the 17,864 active cases are mild, 4.8 percent are asymptomatic, 6 percent are critical, 14.4 percent are severe, and 21.39 percent are moderate.
Some 200 new deaths were reported which brought the country's total Covid-19 fatalities to 47,682.
According to DOH data on Nov. 22, about 2.5 percent of 32,254 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.
"About 17 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 15 are recoveries. Some 33 cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count as 19 of these are recoveries," it said.
"Moreover, 179 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.
Two laboratories were operational on Nov. 22 and three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.
The DOH noted the five non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.8 percent of samples tested, and 1.5 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.
To date, 31 percent of 3,700 intensive care unit beds, 28 percent of 20,300 isolation beds, 16 percent of 13,400 ward beds, and 19 percent of 2,100 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.
Meanwhile, 29 percent of 1,300 intensive care unit beds, 25 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 21 percent of 4,000 ward beds, and 21 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
