MANILA – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) targets to provide enterprise-based training to 400 Customer Services NC II trainees next year through its partnership with the SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI), Secretary Isidro Lapeña said on Friday.

TESDA-Region III inked an agreement with SMFI last November 19 for the apprenticeship program.

"We are looking forward to expand this to other regions and to implement it nationwide. But for now, our focus is on this new TESDA Region III-SMFI partnership," Lapeña told the Philippine News Agency.

He said training immediately started on the same day of the signing of the agreement. TESDA-Region III targets 100 trainees to benefit from this program this year.

It targets 400 beneficiaries by 2022.

Data from TESDA's Partnerships and Linkages Office bared that the agency currently has 432 technical vocational institution and company partners implementing various enterprise-based training programs.

For Customer Service, two companies in Davao del Sur are currently implementing the enterprise-based training, it added.

Meanwhile, Lapeña said SMFI has been TESDA's partner since 2019. Another TESDA-SMFI project is on the Sustainable Agriculture program.

According to TESDA, the recent partnership with SMFI will further improve the technical-vocational education and training (TVET) programs because trainees will be allowed to experience actual enterprise training in SM Supermarket, Hypermarket, Savemore, and at SM Supermalls.

This will help TESDA learners to not only expand their skills and knowledge but to also be confident to explore bigger opportunities as soon as they complete their training, it said. (PNA)
