MANILA – The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) resumed operation on Tuesday afternoon after signaling trouble caused the rail service to be briefly suspended before noon.

In an advisory, the MRT-3 announced that full train operations have resumed between North Avenue Station and Taft Avenue Station at 12:45 p.m., with 17 trains running.

In a separate statement, Sumitomo Corporation —the maintenance provider of the MRT-3— gave an apology for the “brief suspension” of the rail service.

“Our contractor has already submitted the error data to the system provider, for commencement of detailed analysis,” Sumitomo said.

It assured that a “thorough investigation” will be conducted to find the cause of the problem and to take all necessary countermeasures to ensure safety at the MRT-3.

Earlier, the MRT-3 announced that the three new signaling equipment rooms at the North Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, and Taft Avenue are already operational.

The signaling equipment, it said, is used to ensure the proper and safe operations of its trains and is under “close monitoring” until the end of December.

It said both hardware and software of the MRT-3’s signaling system have been given a “full upgrade” and include new signal lights, point machines, track circuits, interlocking equipment, object controllers, and an upgrade to fiber optic cables from the previous copper cables. (PNA)
