MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday logged 237 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the country’s total tally of infections to 2,836, 915.

The figure is only two cases higher compared to 235, the lowest single-day infection recorded by the DOH in 18 months on Tuesday.

In its latest case bulletin, the DOH said the active cases declined further to 10,193 after 565 new recoveries have been reported. The country now has 2,776,273 recoveries.

About 3,876 of the active cases are mild, 567 are asymptomatic, 391 are critical, 1,867 are severe, and 3,492 are moderate.

“Of the 237 reported cases today, 215 or 91 percent occurred within the recent 14 days – Dec. 2 to 15, 2021. The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR with 43 or 20 percent, Region 10 with 25 or 12 percent) and Region 6 with 22 or 10 percent,” the DOH said.

The DOH also recorded 100 new deaths, which brought the country's Covid-19 fatalities to 50,449.

"Of the 100 reported deaths, only 14 occurred in December 2021, 32 or 32 percent in November 2021, 36 or 36 percent in October 2021, six or six percent in September 2021, six or six percent in August 2021, two or two percent in July 2021, one or one percent in June 2021, and three or three percent in May 2021 due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya," it said.

The DOH said this issue is being coordinated with the epidemiology and surveillance units to ensure information is up to date.

According to DOH data on December 13, only 1 percent of 30,397 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

"About five duplicates were removed from the total case count, as they are recoveries. Also, there were 165 cases that have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count as 161 of them are recoveries," it said. "Moreover, three cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation."

Four laboratories were not operational on December 13 and three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted that the seven laboratories contribute, on average, 0.6 percent of samples tested, and 0.8 percent of positive individuals based on data in the past 14 days.

To date, 22 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit beds, 25 percent of 19,600 isolation beds, 12 percent of 12,400 ward beds, and 13 percent of 3,000 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 24 percent of 1,200 intensive care unit beds, 20 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 17 percent of 3,700 ward beds, and 14 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
