MANILA – A total of 3,143 foreigners have been deported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) this year.

Citing the latest data as of Wednesday, BI's Deportation and Implementation Unit (DIU) chief, lawyer Andrew Siriban, a total of 3,142 were expelled from January to November this year.

Most of these illegal aliens that were deported were Chinese numbering 2,875, Siriban said.

Also included in the list are 90 Koreans, 81 Vietnamese, 27 Japanese, while 19 were Americans.

In 2020, the BI official said they deported 3,219 aliens, many of which have been arrested for being fugitives from justice, undesirable, or overstaying.

On the other hand, Commissioner Jaime Morente said they will continue deporting aliens who have violated the Philippine Immigration Act.

“The pandemic will not be a hindrance in cleansing our country of these illegal aliens. Foreigners who blatantly violate our laws will be deported and blacklisted,” he added. (PNA)
