MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan – Classes in public elementary and high schools and other academic activities in this province were temporarily suspended amid the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
A division memorandum issued by the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 3 (Central Luzon), Schools Division of Bulacan and signed by Schools Division Superintendent Zenia G. Mostoles stated that the temporary suspension of elementary and high school classes in the province is from January 14-27.
"The DepEd Regional Office 3 response granting the said academic health break request of school divisions due to the surge in Covid-19 cases which affects its teaching and non-teaching personnel is to ensure that health safety of teachers and learners is number one priority," Mostoles said in a statement on Friday.
Bulacan is one of the provinces near the National Capital Region (NCR) placed under Alert Level 3 from January 16-31 by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) due to the spike of Covid-19 cases in the country.
Under the memorandum, private schools may exercise their discretion relative to the suspension of classes in coordination and consultation with the parents.
Meanwhile, transactions, as well as operations in four municipal halls in the province, have been suspended for seven days from January 13 to 19 after several employees have tested positive for Covid-19.
The municipal government halls of Balagtas, Angat, San Rafael and Bocaue will be sanitized and disinfected to prevent a surge of Covid-19 cases.
During the meeting of the Bulacan Provincial Task Force on Covid-19 on Friday, Governor Daniel Fernando continued to call on the chief executives of local government units (LGU) and the Bulakenyos to strictly comply with the minimum health standard and follow protocols.
"Kailangang maging mapanuri at disiplinado tayo at sumunod sa tagubilin ng IATF dahil ito ang mabisang paraan para makaiwas na magkasakit at upang hindi maparalisa ang serbisyo ng ating mga kaagapay na mga health care workers at kasamang mga LGU (Let us be critical and disciplined and follow the reminders of the IATF because this is the effective way to avoid getting sick and in order not to paralyze the services of our partners—health workers and the LGUs)," the governor said.
As of January 13, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the province is 100,204 with 8,117 active infections.
On the other hand, the total number of recoveries is 90,592 while the total number of deaths is 1,495. (PNA)
