ISTANBUL – Japanese technology giant Sony announced an agreement for acquiring 100 percent shares of the US-based video game developer Bungie for $3.6 billion.

The acquisition will enable Sony to access Bungie's game services and expertise.

"Bungie will continue to operate independently, maintaining the ability to self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play," Sony said in a statement late Monday.

Bungie is the owner of world-famous video games such as Marathon, Myth, Halo, and Destiny.

Sony has the well-known video game platform PlayStation.

With the prominence of the metaverse concept, technology companies have increased their investments.

In January, Microsoft, which is the owner of another video game platform XBox, bought video game giant Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion. (Anadolu)
