ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), has mobilized its resources to provide assistance to the 149 families displaced by a fire on Thursday here.

Maria Socorro Rojas, CSWDO chief, said Friday the victims were provided with relief assistance by the city government, several agencies, and a number of organizations.

The fire victims received food items, kitchen utensils, sleeping gear, and other household needs.

Rojas said that 142 houses were razed while seven were partially damaged in an over two-hour fire that hit a closely built community Thursday in Barangay San Roque.

The estimated worth of properties damaged during the fire has yet to be ascertained.

The 149 displaced families consisting of 608 individuals are temporarily housed at the covered court in Talungun Drive, also in Barangay San Roque.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development - Zamboanga Peninsula (DSWD-9) and the Office of Senator Cynthia Village provided modular tents to the fire victims.

Chief Insp. Lucio Albaracin, Zamboanga City fire marshal, said the cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring. (PNA)
