SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – At least 170 workers in the Ilocos Region who were affected by retrenchment, or temporary or permanent closure due to the implementation of Alert Level 3 have received PHP5,000 each from the national government through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In a statement issued on Friday, the DOLE-Ilocos regional office said it has released a total of PHP850,000 for the qualified beneficiaries under the third tranche of the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP3).

“Of the total number, 149 of them have already claimed as of February 17 while 21 are yet to claim their cash aid from DOLE Ilocos regional office’s partner money remittance service provider,” it stated.

The workers are from 44 establishments that reported retrenchment or temporary or permanent closure when the alert level status was raised to 3 from January 14 to February 15.

“Most of the beneficiaries so far are from Ilocos Norte with 147 beneficiaries; while 14 are from La Union, and nine from Pangasinan,” the statement added.

DOLE-Ilocos regional director, Lawyer Evelyn Ramos said they have requested additional funds from the central office to accommodate over a thousand other applicants who have been evaluated.

CAMP is DOLE’s safety net program that seeks to give one-time financial assistance of PHP5,000 to pandemic-affected workers in the formal sector. (PNA)
