LAOAG CITY – The municipal government of Currimao, Ilocos Norte announced Friday its month-long free anti-rabies vaccination of cats and dogs in village halls from March 8 to April 8.

As part of the observance of anti-rabies prevention month, Engr. Erickson B. Biag, the municipal agriculturist, urged owners of cats and dogs to take advantage of this free service from the municipal government.

Biag said the timely administration of vaccines for dogs and cats is vital to protect them from rabies which is also deadly to humans if bitten by an infected animal.

“Anti-rabies vaccines shall be given to animals every three years for their protection,” he said.

Anti-rabies vaccines cost around PHP300-500 when administered in private animal clinics.

For the convenience of pet owners, the municipal agriculture office has prepared a target schedule starting March 8 to bring the vaccines to the village halls.

Personnel from the municipal agriculture office will be making rounds to the 23 barangays of Currimao for the rollout of the anti-rabies vaccines.

The target schedule which runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm has already been posted on the official Agriculture Currimao Facebook page.

The activity will begin in Barangay Tapao Tigue and then to the other villages such Cabuusan, Maglaoi, Pias, San Simeon, Anggapang, Victoria, Comcomloong, Salugan, Gaang, Lang-ayan, Sta. Cruz, Poblacion 1 and 2, Paguludan, Bimmanga, Torre, Lioes and Pangil.

The municipal agriculture office likewise announced there would also be a simultaneous immunization drive for goats and sheep which were earlier distributed to the farmer-recipients courtesy of the agriculture department. (PNA)
