BACOLOD CITY – More than 1,500 octogenarians and nonagenarians in this city have been receiving "ladderized" or progressive cash incentives from the city government since January this year.

As of Thursday, the grant was released to 813 beneficiaries in a series of payouts conducted by the city's Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) this week.

The remaining 765 recipients have already received their cash incentives in the past two months.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia is glad the recipients are availing of the program provided under two city ordinances approved in 2016 and 2019.

“There are a lot of those who are 80 years old and above here in Bacolod. That’s why Councilor Archie Baribar, with the help of other city officials, pushed for this,” the mayor said.

The two ordinances provide a ladderized increase of cash incentive from the initial PHP10,000 to PHP100,000 for residents who reach the age of 100.

Those who reach the age of 80 to 89 receive PHP10,000 while those aged 90 to 99 are given another PHP10,000.

The remaining PHP80,000 will be granted to those who will reach 100 years old.

DSSD social worker Rosalyn Rubrico said they distributed the ladderized grants to more than 800 beneficiaries for three days until March 16.

Among the recipients are couple Antonio and Filipina Rocero, both 89 and residents of Barangay Singcang-Airport; and Evangeline Moleje, 86, of Barangay Taculing, who received the cash incentives during the payout held at the Bacolod City Government Center lobby on March 14.

Aside from releasing the grant to beneficiaries who came to various venues, Rubrico said they also delivered the grants to other recipients in their respective residences. (PNA)
