Covid-19 infections in Caraga further dip

BUTUAN CITY – The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Caraga Region continues to drop, with only two infections recorded as of Thursday night, the regional health office said.

In a report on Friday, the Department of Health – Caraga (DOH-13) said the two new infections were recorded in the towns of Claver and Del Carmen, both in Surigao del Norte.

Overall, the region has 67 active Covid-19 cases, bringing the total cumulative number of infections in the area to 58,726.

“Also, the total Covid-19 recoveries in Caraga now stand at 56,507 with eight new recoveries recorded on Thursday,” DOH-13 said.

Two new deaths were also recorded that brought the total number of Covid-19 related deaths in Caraga to 2,154.

No new Covid-19 variant cases were detected in the region, based on the latest DOH-13 biosurveillance report.

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 550 variant cases were recorded in the region that included 48 Alpha, 93 Beta, 202 Delta, 30 P.3, and 177 Omicron strains.

High numbers of recovery were also recorded in the region among the variant cases, including 37 of the 48 Alpha cases, 83 of 93 Beta, 192 of 202 Delta, 29 of 30 P.3, and 175 of 177 Omicron variants.

Eleven deaths were recorded among the Alpha variants, 10 in Beta, 10 in Delta, one in P.3, and two in Omicron. (PNA)
