Zambo Peninsula marks 95% recovery rate: DOH

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) has registered a 95.6 percent recovery rate from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), as 57,443 individuals here have recovered from it since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Data from the Department of Health in Region 9 (DOH–9) released on Tuesday showed a cumulative total of 60,045 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 123 active cases, and 2,480 deaths.

“These are indeed far less compared to the numbers that we have had previously,” Dr. Jimuel Cristobal, DOH-9 medical officer, said of the recorded low active cases of Covid-19 in the region.

Cristobal said 97 percent of the active cases are asymptomatic and mild to moderate, while the remaining three percent are severe to critical status.

The data also showed that Isabela City registered zero active cases, while the areas in the region were ranked as Zamboanga City with 91; Zamboanga Sibugay, 12; Zamboanga del Norte, 10; Zamboanga del Sur, 10.

In terms of recovery, Zamboanga City logged the highest number with 27,064.

Trailing this city in recoveries were Zamboanga del Sur with 13,287; Zamboanga del Norte, 10,950; Zamboanga Sibugay, 4,604; Isabela City, 1,538.

Zamboanga City also has the highest number of cumulative cases with 28,254 aside from having high recoveries.

The number of Covid-19 cumulative cases in the other parts of the region were Zamboanga del Sur, 13,797; Zamboanga del Norte, 11,556; Zamboanga Sibugay, 4,840; Isabela City, 1,599.

On Covid-related deaths, the DOH-9 data showed that Zamboanga City has most number with 1,099; followed by Zamboanga del Norte, 596; Zamboanga del Sur, 500; Zamboanga Sibugay, 224; Isabela City, 61.

Cristobal reiterated that the public should continue practicing the minimum health protocols despite the decrease in active cases. (PNA)
