BALER, Aurora – Some 877 bags of blood were collected from the first set of donors during the bloodletting activity organized by the Philippine Army's 7th Infantry Division, participated in by troops under its area of jurisdiction and civilians in Nueva Ecija on Tuesday.

In a statement on Wednesday, the 7ID said it signed with the Dugong Alay, Dugtong Buhay Incorporated (DADBI) a memorandum of partnership (MOP) for the initiative at the Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City during the 1st 7ID-Wide Simultaneous Blood Donation Activity.

The MOP would allow the conduct of regular blood donation activities and subsequently the institutionalization of the Blood Services Program of 7ID to sustain its advocacy to help the troops, Civilian Human Resources, their dependents, and all other stakeholders in need of immediate blood supply.

In his message, DADBI founder and president Napoleon Nicetas Marilag emphasized that through the MOP, the troops of the 7ID will be prioritized in case of urgent need.

Maj. Gen. Andrew D. Costelo, commander of 7ID, said the simultaneous blood donation activity aims to strengthen ties and partnerships with various stakeholders in support of the initiatives of the 7ID Transformation Roadmap.

“The ‘Dugong Alay ng Kaugnay, Dugtong ng Inyong Buhay’ is an activity that will help augment the blood requirement of the different partner healthcare institutions and hospitals in different areas of the Philippines. It is our collective goal that we will have enough blood stored in the different partner hospital blood banks and we will have enough blood stored for our Kaugnay troopers in case there is a need for any emergency and planned blood transfusion due to any medical indication,” Costelo said.

Said activity was conducted in partnership with different health institutions and hospitals including the Tondo Medical Center, MV Gallego Cabanatuan City General Hospital, Davao Regional Medical Center, and Samar Provincial Hospital, among others. (PNA)
