MANILA – More than 90,000 persons have received vaccination against Covid-19 during the special vaccination days held from March 29 to 31 in Cebu province, Davao Region, and Cotabato City.

In an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 60 percent of the target population in the three areas was covered during the vaccination drive.

“We were able to have an accomplishment of 90,039 na nabakunahan natin (individuals we have inoculated),” she said.

Vaccine hesitancy remains as the primary factor causing the low vaccination coverage in some areas in the country, she added.

“Especially in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Cotabato City where we went,” she said.

To get more individuals protected against Covid-19, the DOH and the National Vaccination Operations Center plan to deploy social mobilizers that would perform intensive social preparation and community engagement.

Vergeire said this could promote better acceptance for house-to-house vaccinations done in communities.

“Kahit hindi special vaccination days, tuloy-tuloy po ang lahat ng ginagawa natin para maitaas ang antas ng pagbabakuna sa lahat ng areas dito sa ating bansa (Even without special vaccination days, we’ll continue with the inoculation activities to boost vaccination rates in all areas in the country),” she added.

More than 66.2 million individuals are already fully vaccinated against Covid-19, 71.4 million have received their first dose, and 12.2 million got their booster shots as of April 4. (PNA)
