MANILA – The Philippines has already administered a total of 143,036,759 doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines, with 66,230,305 adult Filipinos or 73 percent of the country’s target coverage for population protection now fully vaccinated.

The latest data from the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid showed that of the total fully vaccinated, only 12,208,931 eligible individuals, or only 17 percent of the target population have availed of the booster shots or additional protection.

On the other hand, some 5,210,319 vaccinees still waiting for their second dose.

NTF chief and vaccine czar, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., earlier cited the need to further encourage those who received the first dose to go back for their second dose; and those fully vaccinated to get booster doses.

Sa ating booster shot medyo mababa pa rin po ang ating mga numero (We still have low numbers in our booster shots),” Galvez noted.

So far, there are 9,866,376 adolescents aged 12-17 years old who have received their twin Covid-19 doses, while 2.2 million children aged five to 11 got their reformulated low-dosage Covid-19 vaccines.

The government said it will ramp up vaccination efforts to protect more pediatric age groups against the risks of the dreaded virus. (PNA)
