CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The city jail here is now cleared of the coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19), a health official said Thursday.

Dr. Ted Yu Jr, the City Health Office medical officer, said all Covid-19 infected persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) inside the city jail in Lumbia village have recovered from the virus.

"We also don't have PDL fatalities from the virus,” Yu said in an online briefer.

Apart from the PDLs, he said all Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Northern Mindanao (BJMP-10) personnel assigned at the jail were also cleared of the disease.

CHO data showed the city jail recorded a cumulative total of 519 Covid-19 cases as of April 6, out of the 3,400 PDLs who have been tested for the virus.

The city government has been coordinating with BJMP-10 for precautionary measures to avoid the surge of cases inside the jail, said Dr. Joselito Retuya Jr., the CHO epidemiologist.

Retuya said the city jail management has assured that all PDLs are negative from Covid-19 before transferring them to the main population inside the facility.

BJMP-10 also maintains its own temporary treatment and monitoring facility, accredited by the Department of Health, where they transfer PDLs who tested positive for the virus.

Aside from the city jail, Yu said all private hospitals here, including the government-owned JR Borja General Hospital and Army’s Camp Evangelista Station Hospital were also cleared of the active Covid active cases.

Yu reported there was no new positive case detected in the city, whose total cumulative cases remain at 25,804 with 14 active cases, 24,855 recoveries, and 935 recorded deaths. (PNA)
